Using ASL for speech development

As a mom of 3 and a teacher, with a minor in ASL I love using sign language to help with my children's language development. I have used it with all three of my children and it has been so fun to watch their vocabulary expand. They love being able to communicate sooner and on a deeper level. I recommend starting with simple phrases such as "more", "help", "please", "all done", "thank you", "outside", "play", "mom" and "dad". Teaching these phrases really cuts down on the frustration level for them and you! Once they are ready, I love teaching them animal signs. It is so fun to watch an 18 month old sign "dog", "cat", "pig", etc.

I also find it fulfilling to teach a new skill to myself! I hope you find joy in it like I did.
