Math Facts Skip Counting Songs

I wrote a post about how important multiplication facts are for 4th, 5th, and 6th grade. Sometimes kids just can't memorize them. When I have a student like this I like to introduce them to skip counting songs instead. It takes a little bit longer than multiplication, however it gives them the resources to be able to figure it out in a timely manner.  You can find several versions of each number online. I usually find one that caters to the student depending on their interests. Just search "8's multiplication song" or whatever number your student is struggling with and several will come up. With 2's 5's 10's and 11's you can usually just skip count, without a song :).  **As they are singing the song, have them hold a finger up each time they say a new number. Then they will know what number they are multiplying by.

The Importance of Math Facts For 4th 5th and 6th Grade!

If you've had a kid struggle with their multiplication facts you probably know how painful 4th, 5th and 6th grade were. Unfortunately if kids struggle with their multiplication facts, they will most likely struggle with several of the concepts taught in these grades. Almost all of them have several steps with at least one of those being quick multiplication recollection. When a student doesn't know their facts, they get stuck on figuring it out and then get distracted. They then lose their place and can't remember where they are in the steps for what they were actually doing. This is why multiplication facts are so so important!  Any way they can learn it works. Some students learn better skip counting with songs you can find online. Sometimes apps work best, other times online games.  These are some of the ways my students and kids have learned the best from Amazon:  Multiplication Splat Multiplication Flash Cards #ad As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying p...

Using ASL for speech development

As a mom of 3 and a teacher, with a minor in ASL I love using sign language to help with my children's language development. I have used it with all three of my children and it has been so fun to watch their vocabulary expand. They love being able to communicate sooner and on a deeper level. I recommend starting with simple phrases such as "more", "help", "please", "all done", "thank you", "outside", "play", "mom" and "dad". Teaching these phrases really cuts down on the frustration level for them and you! Once they are ready, I love teaching them animal signs. It is so fun to watch an 18 month old sign "dog", "cat", "pig", etc.  I also find it fulfilling to teach a new skill to myself! I hope you find joy in it like I did.  Don't know ASL? I love these flash cards from Amazon: ASL Flash Cards My babies have also loved baby signing time: Baby Signing Time #ad ...
